Young Children

As children grow older problems may become apparent which may have arisen because of earlier strains or as a result of trauma such as knocks on the head or falls. Recurrent infections in the nose and ears (glue ear) may be due in part to restrictions in the small yet important tolerances or movement in the growing skull.

Problems may become apparent as a result of mechanical stresses on the body. These can greatly influence educational and social development. Complaints often suffered by older children and teenagers include:

Musculo-skeletal problems, aches and pains
Growing pains
Susceptibility to infections and depleted immunity
Ear infections, glue ear
Sinus and dental problems
Behavioural, learning and co-ordination difficulties
Tension headaches
Scoliosis
Many osteopaths experienced in this field also consider that mechanical stresses on the body can be an important factor in cases of developmental delay such as delayed speech, educational difficulties and problems with co-ordination and physical development that have no particular medical diagnosis. Such children often make better progress once osteopathic treatment has been started. If you are unsure if your child will benefit from treatment please contact me.

Paediatric Osteopathy works on the principle that any condition suffered by the child is due to an imbalance within the body’s systems. The osteopath will use gentle manual techniques to bring about changes and re-balance the child’s body, allowing it to work more efficiently, optimally and peacefully.

During treatment your child will feel light pressure on parts of the head and body, which may be combined with some movement of the body or limbs. The child will normally be relaxed after the treatment and sleep well, while some may seem energised. Occasionally they may be unsettled for a day or two, but this will subside.

If you are unsure whether your child would benefit from treatment please feel free to ring I will be happy to talk to you.
